Dixie-Narco Model DN180/105-5 compressor.

I have a Dixie-Narco Model DN180/105-5 with what I suspect is a bad compressor. It does not cool and the compressor does kick in and i can feel the tube get cold but it then shuts down so I been told it is a bad compressor. Can the compressor be rebuilt by myself and if not where can i send it for a rebuild I am located in Duluth Mn.
Thanks,
Glen

Re: Dixie-Narco Model DN180/105-5 compressor.

hawkeye,
It sounds like a bad compressor to me also. Rebuilding the mechinacal parts inside a compressor is beyond the scope of this forum (my abilities fo sure).
HOWEVER, complete used and rebuilt refrigeration decks are available on the web for about $250 (200 + 50 shipping)(ebay and others). :D New run about $600+. A google search for 'vending machine compressor' yielded several results and many used vending machine sales websites also sell parts (like compressors).
AND there is a detailed post (with pics) RIGHT HERE ON THIS FORUM at: http://www.vend-resource.com/forum-topic/how-do-i-change-compressor-my-s... on how to change your compressor. They are pretty easy (2 bolts, 6 screws). :D
BUT if you don't want to mess with it at all, a vending repair tech (see your local yellow pages) will install one for you for about $150 + the price of compressor (total = $400 used to $800 new). Beware, some guys call "rebuilt" "new" and their not the same.

hope this info was useful, :)

Hawkeye,
Once again I'm posting to this because of the large amount of viewers, I wouldn't condemn the compressor yet. You said it was cooling the tube then quiting that indicates the compressor has the ability to work. More info would help pin point the problem. Is the condensor fan turning (the one by the compressor), which tube is cooloing the smaller cap tube or the bigger tube?, Is the evaperator fan turning (the one behind the cooling coil)? Is the compressor hot to the touch or real hot to the touch? Is the machine plugged into an extension cord? Is the T-stat factory installed or has it been replaced? There are 2 stages of a compressor running, Start and running it would be very unusual for cooling to begin in the start condition but would have to go into a run condition to get any cooling action on the tube. That is why I wouldn't condemn the compressor yet.

Re: Dixie-Narco Model DN180/105-5 compressor.

Hawkeye,
Continued:I would look for a leak low freon on the suction side, faulty thermal overload (which can be caused by wrong t-stat, dirty coil, to close to wall, or bad condensor fan motor) or faulty start run relay which can be caused by all the previous issues. I would try a 3 in 1 hard start kit found at local refrigeration/ a/c store.
If you have any other observations you can forward to me I would be glad to help.
You also asked about rebuilding compressor not actually feasible, possible by someone who has no life :-) ...... You can switch out compressor if you have soldering abilities with a torch if so I could walk you through that.
Got questions I have over 25 years experience in vending problem solutions.
