Re: coin acceptor repair

OK, I need a little more info.
Is this a snack or soda machine?
If it's a soda machine is it single or multi-price? (You can tell the difference by the coin mech's plug. See the 'basics' post for pic's of the coin mech plug types: 110v = single price, 24v = multi-price).
Do the coins just fall straight through to the coin return or does it take the coins and not vend?

Re: coin acceptor repair

I almost missed your response (we don't use the private messages here at all.) all questions and responses are posted on topic (with 'post a reply'). Ok, you said:" My Machine is a Refreshtron 3 (Coffee, Soda, and Snacks). The coin changer is a Coin Co. Model No. 9300L. The coins fall straight throught to the coin return, and when bills are used, no coins come through for change."
Your machine is made by National Vendors, it's a combo machine, everthing on that machine is ran by the computer motherboard. It's has a 117volt changer but is still a multi-price machine.
If I am understanding you right it sounds like the changer(coinco 9300L) is not working(since it is not making change when dollars are used and the dollar bill validator is working). two things to check first:
1. I know it sounds stupid but check to make sure power is reaching the plug/connector to the changer. If it is then....
2. remove the changer(coinco 9300L) and have it tested by a local coinco dealer(or online store) they have machines to 'bench' it. this will usually run anywhere from free to $60.00 they should have remanufactured ones for sale if yours is bad.
If power is getting to the changer and the changer 'benches' good. then it's either the either the motherboard :( or a small short some where in the machine :(
Either way you will need a professional repair tech to fix your machine. $$$ :(
They do have self diagnostics on the motherboards but you need a copy of the programing manual for your specific machine(year/make/model) to use it and then they only give cryptic and very general messasges(e.g. 5-5 for the changer bad) however that may just mean that the contacts/wires from the motherboard to the changer are bad not the changer it self. They are pretty much useful only for testing the motherboard itself (if it will run it's own self-diagnostics chances are the motherboard is good.)
hoped this helped.

PS: good luck!

Re: coin acceptor repair

Try cleaning the coin path with a damp rag. If dirt builds up it will cause the coin to travel at a different rate of speed and it will not be accepted.

Just a Note:
You said "The coins fall straight throught to the coin return, and when bills are used, no coins come through for change." If the bill acceptor is accepting bills and not paying back change you may have more than one problem. But not terminal. Coinco mechs are notorious for coin tube sensor issues, (i.e. solder connections etc.). If the tubes are full try emptying them down alittle then see if it takes coins. Coinco mechs also notorious for burning out the 10 cent pay/out solenoid. Pull acceptor down and check for red LED light. Out of tune. Broken diverter gate plunger. In the Nat'l machine you need to check in Mach configure to make sure you have the right coinmech programmed. Just a thought
